RYA Cruising Instructor
Cruising Instructor candidates are experienced skippers with theoretical and practical knowledge well in excess of the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence who have a desire to teach in motor cruisers
Minimum age: 18
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence (commercially endorsed)
Pre requisites: Experienced Skipper with theory and practical knowledge in excess of the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence
Training Course: Four day training course with a moderator joining the vessel on the final day
Qualified to teach: Start Cruising, RYA Helmsman, RYA Day Skipper Power
Validity: Five years from date of issue, provided that a valid first aid certificate is maintained. At the end of the five years Cruising Instructors will be required to attend an RYA Instructor revalidation.
RYA membership: Required
Health declaration: You will be asked to sign a health declaration stating that you are not suffering from any physical or mental impairment which has an adverse effect on your ability to properly discharge your duty of care as an instructor. If you are unable to sign the standard declaration, you will be required to complete a medical questionnaire.
