Powerboat Level 2

This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).

It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations.

Assumed Knowledge: None required, however it is recommended that candidates complete the RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship online course prior to the Powerboat Level 2.  Candidates will be given the opportunity to add the RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship to the Powerboat Level 2 booking, and will recieve 15% off the standard course price.
Course Duration: 2 day (0930-1700).
Minimum age: 16. For under 16 years old, see Junior Powerboating courses.
Course Content: Launching and recovery, Boat preparation, crew preparation, boat handling, securing to a mooring buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, being towed, man overboard procedures.
Ability after the course: To be a self sufficient powerboat in appropriate conditions, to be aware of own limitations, and those of the vessel.procedures.

1:1 tuition available: For anyone who would like to reduce contact with other candidates or who would like to spend the course with an instructor specifically targeting their training requirements.  There is an additional fee for this and prices are not on the website, so please contact us for further details.

Courses are scheduled to run throughout the year.  Please follow the link to look at the calendar and to book. When you have successfully completed your Powerboat Level 2 qualification and have obtained a VHF licence you will be eligible to join the Edinburgh Boat Club.
