RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Theory

Advanced training for more experienced skippers building on the Day Skipper course. This course equips you to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages.

This course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for the Yachtmaster™ Coastal and Yachtmaster™ Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills.

Course Content: Position fixing, course shaping and plotting, tidal knowledge, use of almanacs and admiralty publications, electronic position finding equipment, taking and interpreting forecasts, plotting weather systems, weather predictions using a barometer and passage planning.

Course prerequisites:   Candidates a required to have a Day Skipper Theory level of knowledge.  This can be obtained by either completing a Day Skipper Theory course, or by equivalent learning.  if oyu have any questions about eligibility then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Assessment criteria:  There are three exams assessing IRPCS, chartwork, and Passage Planning

Course Duration: 7 days (taught over 4 weekends, or in a week block).  Please note that in case of absence and other factors we allocate 8 days for the 4 weekend courses, and if we can complete the material in seven days then the last day can be removed from the programme.

When booking weekend or evening courses please just select the start date of the course.  The subsequent weekends will be added to your booking afterwards by the office team.
