Powerboat Instructor Pre Entry Assessment

Powerboat Instructors can teach in a variety of small open powerboats such as RIBs, dories and sportsboats and is aimed at a variety of users from casual leisure boaters to professional small boat skippers. As an instructor you will therefore need to have experience in a variety of boats and situations, and you need to undertake and pass a Powerboat Instructor Pre Entry skills assessment to check that your boat handling is at the level required.

Minimum age: 16

Pre requisites: Details can be found in the RYA Power Schemes Instructor Handbook (G19).

Training Course: Skills Assessment is approximately 4 hours.  The Skills assessment will be based around the Level 2 powerboat course and all candidates need to ensure that they are familiar and competent with each manoeuvre.

Validity: Allows entry to the Powerboat Instructor course.

RYA membership: Required for the instructor course.
