RYA Helmsman
This two day course will give you the opportunity to learn basic boat handling and helmsmanship, safety on board, and basic engine maintenance. It is designed for those new to motor cruisers who would like to understand the potential hazards of manoeuvring a vessel in a marina and at sea.
Assumed Knowledge: None, although the RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship theory course is highly recommended.
Course Duration: 2 days (0930-1700).
Minimum age: 12
Course Content: Preparation for sea, boat handling, securing to a buoy, berthing alongside, man overboard procedures, hulls and drives, safety, rules of the road, and basic engine operation.
Ability after the course: Able to handle a motor cruiser in sheltered waters with which the student is familiar in daytime.
1:1 tuition available: For anyone who would like to reduce contact with other candidates or who would like to spend the course with an instructor specifically targeting their training requirements. There is an additional fee for this and prices are not on the website, so please contact us for further details.

When you have successfully completed your Helmsman course you will be able to spend some time developing sea time and then you can work towards your Day Skipper Theory and RYA Day Skipper Practical courses.
