About the Boats

Forth Explorer is a 2020 Ribcraft 6.4 Pro.  She is an exhilarating vessel, designed for safe use in all weathers and is fun, fast, and simple to drive.  She has 6 individual seats and is rated for 6 people, so you can bring your friends and family with you. She has a shallow draught and electronic engine trim allowing her to get into remote harbours and inlets that other boats are unable to access.

Coming Soon:  2023 RIB which will be similar to Forth Explorer above, rated for 6 people.

Both boats come fitted with touchscreen Raymarine chartplotters for accurate navigation, a DSC VHF Radio, and they carry a full set of navigation charts of the Firth of Forth for those who like to navigate traditionally.  They are powered by Suzuki 150 hp engines with fly by wire electronic throttles which ensure smooth gear changes.  The extensive list of safety equipment for both vessels includes a 6 person liferaft, flares, first aid kits, a towline, a searchlight, and numerous other items.

I want to join but it is part way through the season, can I still join?

The membership a is set and priced for full season (April – September), but you can still join for a part season membership  dependent on membership places being available.  Please contact us for more info.

What Qualifications do I need?

You need to have completed an RYA Powerboat Level two course and hold an RYA/MCA VHF operators licence, and the online Essential Navigation course.  All courses can be taken through the Edinburgh Marine Academy, and members exclusive discounts can be put towards these courses.

Where should I go on my day trip?

There are a huge number of small and picturesque fishing ports on the banks of the Firth of Forth, many of them only accessible in smaller boats with lifting engines.  We can give you ideas and cruising plans if you would like to explore them.  With appropriate conditions (dependent on boats) you will even be able to go further afield, such as to St Abbs, North Berwick, and to Elie, St Monans and other ports on the Fife coast.

Can I go on a multiple day trip?

Yes you can take the boat away for multiple days by prior arrangement.  You will need to fill in a passage plan detailing your approximate routes and safe havens but this is a great way to go further afield and see new areas.  We can give you details on ports and harbours in the Firth of Forth that you could consider as destinations, and for any areas where boats need to be transported by road, an addiotnal transportation fee will apply with our vehicle.

How much will fuel cost?

Like a car, fuel usage depends on how you drive the boat, the sea state, and the number of people you carry.  As an approximate rule if you allow 1 litre of fuel per mile driving at optimum cruising speed (about 2500 revs – 20 knots) then this will allow approximate calculation.  If you drive the boat fast, or fill it with people then you will use more fuel.  We will give you the boat full each morning, and then top up the tank at the end of the day and you will be charged just for what you use at the pump list price by invoice after your trip.

Do I need to take any other equipment?

All the boat safety equipment and personal protective equipment (lifejackets and waterproofs) are supplied as standard for you and each of your passengers.  All you need to bring is your lunch, water, sunglasses and suncream and any other items of warm clothing or belongings that you need for the day.
